Fort Wayne hockey has been a city tradition since 1952, and even the famous “K” has a story behind it. Founder Ernie Berg wanted a name that captured speed, flash, and excitement, then spelled Komets with a K in honor of his wife Kathryn, who went by Kay—a small piece of Fort Wayne history that has endured for generations.
